Belt Length Calculator
Cut a belt to the right blank length with correctly spaced holes.
Tool Operation Area
Turns a waist measurement into a full belt blank length, buckle fold allowance, hole positions and tip length.
How It Works
- Belt size is measured from the buckle fold to the centre hole, so the blank must add the fold, the waist and half the hole run.
- The tip is proportional to the belt width — roughly 2.2 times the width gives a balanced English point.
- Holes are laid out symmetrically around the centre hole at your chosen spacing (2.54 cm / 1 inch is the industry default).
- A 2 cm working margin is added so you can trim the tip cleanly after fitting.

fold body holes tipHow to Use
- 1Measure the waist over the trousers where the belt will actually sit, not the trouser tag size.
- 2Pick the buckle fold that matches your hardware.
- 3Use an odd hole count so there is a true centre hole.
- 4Cut the blank to the highlighted length, fit, then punch from the centre hole outwards.
FAQ
Should I use trouser size instead of waist?
No. Trouser sizing runs small; always measure the actual wearing position.
How far apart should the holes be?
1 inch (2.54 cm) is standard. Use 2 cm for dress belts and 3 cm for heavy work belts.
What hole size do I punch?
Match the buckle prong — usually a 4 mm oblong or round punch.
How thick should belt leather be?
3.2-4.4 mm (8-11 oz) vegetable-tanned leather holds shape without a liner.
